About ICGEB
The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), established in 1983, is an international, intergovernmental organisation conceived as a Centre of excellence for research, training, and technology transfer to industry in the field of biotechnology to promote sustainable global development. ICGEB is currently inviting applications for various roles across its components.
Current Openings
1. Junior Research Fellow (JRF)
Project: The project involves optimizing fermentation parameters to maximize volatile fatty acids (VFA) production from food and agricultural waste.
Qualifications
Essential: M.Sc. in Life Sciences / Biotechnology / equivalent.
Desirable: Preference will be given to candidates who have cleared the DBT/ CSIR JRF exam. Prior experience in anaerobic culturing and Omics analyses will be preferred.

2. Research Associate (RA)
Duration: Initially available for one year, with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and achievement of project objectives. This is a temporary project position, co-terminus with the sanctioned project.
Qualifications
Essential: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline, with experience in advanced molecular biology techniques.
Desirable: Prior research experience in yeast biology, synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, genome editing, DNA assembly, and/or fermentation technology.
Job Description
The selected candidate will work on yeast synthetic biology and metabolic engineering, including genome engineering/editing, DNA assembly, molecular biology, omics approaches, strain development, and fermentation for the production of industrially relevant high-value compounds.

3. Group Leader, Virology
Type of Contract: Fixed-term appointment (Initial period of one year with further extensions of four years, subject to satisfactory performance).
Level: P2 (UN Scale)
Date Required: 1st March 2027
Qualifications & Competencies
Education: PhD in Virology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, or a related discipline.
Experience: Relevant professional experience at the international level virology research and collaborative programmes addressing infectious diseases and virological outbreaks. Previous experience in infectious/communicable diseases or Biological Safety Levels 3 (BSL3) facilities would be advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of other languages would be an asset.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Initiate and establish in-field collaborations and networks with scientists in the ICGEB Member Countries that work on Virology.
- Provide strategic leadership in developing and implementing research through an internationally competitive experimental research programme on Virology.
- Develop and secure funding for a vigorous, externally funded research program in Virology.
- Contribute to development of regional anti-viral policies, strategies, programs and activities in collaboration with UN technical clusters (ie. WHO).
- Supervise, mentor and manage the research activities of the junior staff, Fellows and technicians in group.
