Recruitment Overview & Research Scope

The CSIR – Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, is a premier national research laboratory under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) pioneering frontline investigations in genomics, molecular diagnostics, infectious diseases, and structural biology. CCMB has officially released Notification No. W0926/A inviting eligible Indian nationals to attend a Walk-In Interview on 16th September 2026 for a temporary scientific research position on a contractual basis.

The recruited scientist will join the externally funded research initiative titled “Implementation of Wastewater Surveillance for Multi-pathogens across India” (Project Code: GAP000690), under Principal Investigators Dr. Vinay K. Nandicoori and Dr. Subhajit Sen. This flagship national project applies genomic epidemiology and high-throughput metagenomic sequencing to monitor emerging bacterial and viral pathogen trends across wastewater networks throughout India.

Eligibility Criteria & Desirable Skills

Essential Educational Qualifications (Either Option A or Option B):

  • Option A: Ph.D. in Life Sciences (Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Virology, or any other relevant subject).
  • Option B: Postgraduate degree (M.Sc. / M.Tech.) in a relevant subject/field (Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Virology, or allied fields) plus a minimum of three (03) years’ experience in the relevant subject or field.

Wet-Lab & Sequencing Expertise

  • More than 1 year of practical experience in high-throughput Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation techniques.
  • Demonstrated background in metagenomics, whole-genome sequencing (WGS), and transcriptome library synthesis.
  • Experience handling environmental samples or wastewater metagenomic analysis will be considered favorably.

Bioinformatics & Computational Skills

  • More than 1 year of hands-on experience in analyzing high-throughput genomic and NGS data.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language: Python, R, C, C++, JavaScript, or Perl (demonstrated by publications, GitHub profile, or other code repositories).
  • Well-versed in Linux / Bash / command-line environments with the ability to construct and modify custom pipelines for data analysis.

Important Eligibility Disclaimers:

  • Candidates who are still pursuing or awaiting results for their M.Sc., B.Tech., or Ph.D. degree as on the interview date are NOT eligible.
  • The prescribed period of experience will strictly be counted after acquiring the minimum educational qualification.
  • Age relaxation is admissible to SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, and women candidates as per CSIR and Government of India guidelines.

General Terms of Engagement

  • Nature of Post: Purely temporary and on a contractual basis co-terminus with the project (tenure up to 31.03.2028).
  • No Regular Claim: The engagement confers no right or claim for permanent appointment in CSIR or CCMB.
  • Leave Entitlement: Entitled to one (01) day leave for each completed month of service.
  • Working Hours: Standard hours are 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM on working days (weekend/holiday duties if required).
  • Travel Allowance: No TA/DA will be paid for attending the walk-in interview or for joining.
