CSIR-NCL Student Internship Program
๐ฌ Program Overview
The CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), a premier research institution located in Pune, offers a robust Student Internship Program. This program is meticulously designed to nurture the scientific temperament of aspiring undergraduate and postgraduate students by providing them with a unique opportunity to work alongside distinguished scientists in world-class facilities.
The primary objective is to facilitate the completion of academic project work for students pursuing degrees in various scientific and engineering disciplines. By participating, students can bridge the gap between theoretical academic knowledge and practical, high-level research and development (R&D) applications.
โ Eligibility & Research Areas
The internship program is open to students who possess an excellent academic record and a strong aptitude for research. Applications are invited from:
- Undergraduate Students: Those pursuing B.E. / B.Tech degrees in relevant engineering fields.
- Postgraduate Students: Those pursuing M.E. / M.Tech / M.Sc / M.Pharm degrees from recognized universities and colleges across India.
Research Disciplines
The available research areas are interdisciplinary, covering Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Sciences, Physics, Polymer and Advanced Materials, Management, and other allied areas aligned with CSIR-NCL’s scientific interests.
๐ Step-by-Step Application Procedure
Applying for the NCL Internship is a structured multi-step process. Please follow these instructions carefully:
Step 1: Identify a Research Guide
Before registering, it is imperative that students identify a specific scientist or research guide. You must find a mentor whose research interests align with your academic goals.
- Search Scientist Profiles โ: Browse detailed profiles to understand current research projects.
- Search Project Leader by Area โ: Filter potential guides by specific research area, section, or department.
Step 2: Prepare Documents
Ensure you have the following digital documents ready before starting the online application:
- Photograph: Soft copy of passport-size photo (File size: 5 to 50 KB).
- Digital Signature: Scanned copy of your signature (File size: 5 to 25 KB).
- Recommendation Letter: A mandatory document on the official letterhead of your Institute/College (Original required at the time of joining).
Step 3: Online Registration
Once you have selected a guide and prepared your documents, navigate to the official portal to complete your registration. It is recommended to apply 2 to 3 weeks before your intended start date.
๐ Format of University/Institute Letter
One of the most critical documents for acceptance is the Recommendation Letter. It must be printed on the official letterhead of your institution and strictly contain the following specific details:
- Academic Year & ID: The letter must state the current academic year and your Roll Number/Registration ID.
- Duration: Specify the exact duration of the internship in months, including tentative Start and End dates.
- Student Details: Your full name, current degree (e.g., M.Sc Chemistry), and current semester.
- No Objection: Explicitly state that the college has ‘No Objection’ to the student undergoing training at CSIR-NCL as part of their curriculum.
โ๏ธ Selection & Joining
There is no fixed timeline for shortlisting. Selection depends entirely on the availability of positions with the specific Project Leader you applied to.
- Notification: If shortlisted, you will be notified via the portal, and additional options (like the IP Agreement form) will become available on your dashboard.
- Joining Formalities: On the day of joining, you must bring the printed application form, the original signed Recommendation Letter, and the signed Intellectual Property (IP) Agreement Form (signed by the head of your institute).
