🎓 Eligibility Criteria

1. Essential Educational Qualification

The candidate must possess a valid degree from a recognized University/Institute as on the closing date:

  • Ph.D. in any discipline of Life Sciences OR Biotechnology OR Biochemistry OR Computational OR Pharmaceutical OR Agricultural OR Veterinary Sciences OR related disciplines.
  • OR Ph.D. in Engineering OR Technology Chemical OR Biomedical OR Biotechnology OR Biopharma.
  • OR Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in any branch of medicine.
Note on Experience: No minimum experience is required for this post. Fresh Ph.D./M.D. holders are highly encouraged to apply!

2. Age Limit (Max 35 Years)

The upper age limit for direct recruits shall be 35 years as on the closing date. Relaxations are applicable as per Central Government rules:

  • SC/ST Candidates: Up to 5 Years relaxation.
  • OBC Candidates: Up to 3 Years relaxation.
  • PwBD Candidates: Up to 10 Years relaxation.
  • Government Servants: Up to 5 Years relaxation.

📝 Detailed Selection Process

The selection will be a two-stage process consisting of a Computer-Based Written Examination followed by a Personal Interview.

Stage I: Written Examination (200 Marks)

  • Format: Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions (Bilingual in English & Hindi).
  • Duration: 120 minutes (160 minutes for specific PwBD candidates).
  • Negative Marking: 1/2 (Half) mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

General Aptitude: General knowledge, current affairs, elementary mathematics, comprehension, reasoning, analytical ability, and general sciences. 100 Questions

1. Biochemistry/Microbiology
2. Agriculture/Plant Biology
3. Animal Science/Medical
4. Data Science/Bioinformatics

Stage II: Personal Interview (200 Marks)

Candidates will be shortlisted for the interview based on written exam merit in a 1:5 ratio (five candidates per vacancy). Successful Document Verification is mandatory before the interview.

Final Merit List: The final selection will be based on the combined marks of the Written Exam + Interview (Out of 400 marks).

Tie-Breaking Criteria: If total marks are equal, the tie is resolved by higher marks in the Written Exam. If still tied, the older candidate (by date of birth) gets higher seniority.

Duties Attached to the Post

  • Formulate, appraise, and monitor R&D programs across agriculture, medical, biomanufacturing, environmental, and animal biotechnology.
  • Examine regulatory & biosafety assessments, IPR issues, and manage patent facilitation cells.
  • Represent the department in inter-ministerial committees, national task forces, and international collaborations.
  • Manage budgetary, governance, and performance oversight of DBT-affiliated institutions.

Liability & Training Bond

  • Scientists are liable to serve anywhere in India or abroad as required.
  • If detailed for training lasting 6 months or more, or training abroad/with private firms, the Scientist must execute a Bond to serve the Central Government for a minimum of 3 years.
  • Selected candidates will be on probation for one year.

Application Fee

  • General / OBC / EWS (Male Candidates): Rs. 2000/- (Rupees Two Thousand Only) via online payment.
  • Exempted Categories: All Females, SC, ST, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), and Ex-servicemen are exempted from fee payment.

Application Procedure

  • Applications must be submitted strictly via the online portal: https://rcbdbt26.rcb.ac.in/RCBDBT/.
  • Upload scanned, self-attested copies of DOB proof, educational certificates, and experience (if any).
  • Candidates working in Govt/PSU/Autonomous bodies must upload a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
Important: Submission of physical / hard copies of the application is NOT REQUIRED.

📜 General Rules & Exam Centers

  • Scribe Facility: PwBD candidates (loco-motor disability BA, or cerebral palsy with min 40% impairment slowing writing) can opt for a scribe. The scribe must be between 17-21 years old with qualifications not above 12th standard.
  • Admit Cards: Will be available online two weeks before the exam. No physical admit cards will be posted.
  • Mobile Phones: Use of mobiles, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, etc., is strictly banned at the test venue.
  • Exam Centers: The exam will tentatively be held across 42 major cities in India including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Guwahati, etc.
