The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) invites online applications for faculty positions at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. As a Rolling Advertisement, applications are accepted throughout the year and evaluated periodically.

Eligibility Note: Foreign nationals (without an Indian passport) can be offered a contractual appointment for up to five years, renewable thereafter. PIO/OCI cardholders are eligible for permanent positions.

Eligibility & Experience

Minimum Academic Qualification: A Ph.D. with first-class or equivalent at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch, maintaining a very good academic record throughout all preceding degrees.

Experience Requirements

  • Professor: 10 years of teaching, research, or industrial experience. At least 4 years must be at the Associate Professor level.
  • Associate Professor: 6 years of relevant experience. At least 3 years must be at the Assistant Professor level or equivalent.
  • Assistant Professor: For a fresh Ph.D., the appointment will be on a contract basis for the first three years (can be regularized later). Candidates with 3+ years of post-PhD experience are eligible for direct regular appointment.

Note: Exceptional candidates may receive age/experience relaxations. Candidates not suitable for higher positions may be considered for lower positions.

Benefits, Perks & Allowances

Faculty members at IIT Kanpur receive exceptional support beyond the standard Central Government allowances (HRA, LTC, Medical, NPS, etc.).

🚀 Special Top-Up Salary: Newly joined faculty receive an additional top-up of Rs. 25,000/- per month for the first 3 years. After that, high-performing faculty under 40 can get the Young Faculty Fellowship, adding Rs. 15,000/- per month for another 3 years.
  • Research Grant: Initiation grant up to Rs. 25 Lakhs (with provisions for supplementary grants).
  • Relocation Allowance: International travel expenses reimbursed up to Rs. 1,50,000/- for the faculty and dependents. Domestic travel reimbursed per Govt rules.
  • Housing: The Institute endeavors to provide on-campus housing equipped with free high-speed internet.
  • Academic Support: Financial support for attending National and International conferences.

Selection Process

Evaluation of applications involves a structured, multi-tier review mechanism by the respective Departments and the Office of Faculty Affairs.

Initial Review: Faculty members from the specialization area evaluate and recommend the candidate.

Seminar: Recommended candidates are invited to deliver an academic seminar.

Reference Checks: Letters are sought from referees identified after the seminar.

DFAC Shortlisting: The Department Faculty Advisory Committee shortlists based on inputs, seminar, and references.

Final Interview: Candidates are presented to the Institute Faculty Advisory Committee (IFAC) for the final interview.

Application Instructions

  • Applications must be submitted strictly online via the Pingala portal.
  • Upload all certificates and documentary proofs with the application form.
  • Candidates applying for multiple departments must repeat the online application process for each.
  • Employed candidates (Govt/Semi-Govt) must produce a “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) at the time of the interview.
  • Reservations apply as per the CEI Act 2019. SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PWD candidates must attach the GOI prescribed format certificate.
