🎓 Essential Qualifications
A First Division in both UG and PG degrees is absolutely mandatory for eligibility across all departments. All new entrants must hold a PhD in the relevant or equivalent discipline.
Department-Specific Requirements
- Engineering Departments: Candidates must possess UG and PG degrees in Engineering along with a PhD in the relevant branch/discipline. Alternatively, an Integrated UG & PG in Engineering with a PhD, or a UG in Engineering with an Integrated PG & PhD in the relevant branch is acceptable. Candidates having a direct PhD after graduation (B.E/B.Tech) are eligible only if either their B.E/B.Tech or PhD is from a CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute).
- Department of Physics / Chemistry: Requires a PhD along with a BSc (3 or 4 years) and MSc in the appropriate branch, OR an Integrated MSc with a PhD in the appropriate branch.
- Department of Mathematics & Computing: Requires B.Tech and M.Tech in Computer Science/IT/Mathematics and Computing OR B.Sc and M.Sc/Integrated M.Sc. in Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Science, followed by a PhD in relevant fields.
- Department of Humanities & Management: Requires a PhD in Management with any Bachelor’s degree (3/4 years) and an MBA or equivalent Master’s degree in Management/PGDM (2 years), OR a PhD in Management with an integrated Master’s degree in Management.
Additional Academic Mandates
- If “First Class” is not explicitly mentioned on the degree by the University/Institution, the candidate must have secured at least 6.5 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) or 60% marks in aggregate irrespective of their category.
- Conversion from CGPA to percentage (or vice versa) provided by individual Institutes will not be allowed for determining eligibility.
- At least one of the degrees (UG, PG, or PhD) must have been obtained from a CFTI, a Central/State Government University or Institution, or an Institution listed among the top 100 NIRF rankings by MoE at any time.
- If a degree was obtained from a foreign institution, that institute must have been ranked within the top 500 by QS or Times Higher Education (THE) at least once.
💼 Experience Criteria
Experience (even prior to the implementation of NIRF) will only be considered if acquired in specific reputed institutions:
- Fully funded Central Educational Institutions.
- IIMs and other Management Institutions ranked in the top 50 by NIRF for any two years.
- State Educational Institutions funded by the respective State Government.
- Other Educational Institutions ranked in the top 100 by NIRF (overall, university, or engineering categories) for any two years. (If the working institution isn’t ranked, the affiliated university’s rank is considered).
- Overseas Institutes/Universities ranked up to 500 by QS/THE anytime preceding the advertisement date.
- Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) Experience: Considered for the appointment to the post of Assistant Professor up to Pay Level 12.
- Research Labs: Experience in R&D labs under CSIR, DRDO, DAE, DBT, DST, DSIR, ISRO, NPL, etc., will be recognized.
- Industrial Experience: Experience in PSUs, Autonomous Organizations, or Private Industries with an annual turnover exceeding Rs. 500 Crore is considered valid (supporting documents required).

Fresh appointments beyond the age of 60 years are discouraged. However, exceptions may be made for faculty demonstrating an exceptionally brilliant research or academic career with ongoing or approved externally funded research projects.

📋 General Instructions & Application Procedure
- Online Only: Candidates must apply exclusively through the online portal. There is no need to send any hard copy of the application form. Applications without relevant supporting enclosures or the prescribed fee will be rejected.
- No Objection Certificate (NOC): Candidates serving in Govt./Semi-Govt./PSUs/Universities must attach an NOC from their Competent Authority. Existing NIT Jalandhar faculty members do not require an NOC but must intimate their Head of Department.
- Inbreeding Restriction: Candidates who have obtained their PhD from NIT Jalandhar are not eligible to apply for faculty positions here for a period of 3 years from the date of acquiring their PhD.
- Overseas Applicants: Candidates studying or serving abroad may be allowed to appear for their presentation and interview via an audio-cum-video link. A request for this must be emailed to dfw@nitj.ac.in and recruitmentfaculty2026@nitj.ac.in.
- EWS Category: Candidates must provide an Income and Asset Certificate based on the income of the financial year 2024-2025 (issued on or after 1st April 2025).
- OBC-NCL Category: The OBC-NCL certificate must be issued on or after 1st April 2025, validating that the candidate does not belong to the Creamy Layer.
- Selection Process: Shortlisted candidates must appear for a presentation in their respective departments. Based on this performance, they may be recommended for the selection committee interview. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the presentation/interview.
